Tour de Fat

Anyone that has lived in Austin, Tx for any decent amount of time can tell you in 140 characters or less that our summers are HOTHOTHOT! From Facebook updates to twitter feeds the residents of Central Texas drone on and on about the the heat…and rightfully so.

However, as the calendar pages get torn away and Mr. October enters the kitchen so do the cooler temperatures. Windows are left open, hard miles are replaced with long social rides, increased caloric intake and ice cream for dessert.

One other special treat is the conclusion of the Tour de Fat. After months on the road the fine folks from New Belgium end their party on wheels in our fair city. With a Bike Parade, Live Music, Car for Bike Trade, Local Vendors/Organizations, Delicious Beer, and my personal fav…The Bike Pit/Rodeo..You’ll be sure that everyone is taken care of…from training wheels to recumbents!

To top it all of, Tour de Fat will donate a majority of the proceeds to the Yellow Bike Project, Austin Cycling Association and the Austin Ridge Riders.

Unite Bike!!!

Few events bring a community of people from around the world together all at the same time. It’s not small feat and many simply aren’t willing to take on the challenge. However, the fine folks over at Unite Bike are the kind of go get ‘em attitude cyclists. Today @ 5:00 PM thousands of cyclists will gather around the world in various locations to take part in Unite Bike. Curious as to what Unite Bike is all about? Here’s a bit off their home-page.

The idea behind Unite Bike is simple. It is about promoting and supporting a community of individual people who make the choice everyday to participate in an activity that is good for their health, good for the environment, and helps create a better society at large.”

So please….Go out and enjoy this beautiful Sunday afternoon…Gave a pint…Gide your bike…Then cap it off at 701 W. Riverside Drive @ 5:00 PM. All of us here at Austin.Cadence hope to see y’all there!

2010 Harvest Moon Ride

Often I find myself staring at the night sky for no particular reason. Something about the moon is soothing…it brings a calm over my body unlike anything else. Once a year that same moon side steps that big giant star to be the main attraction. The fine folks here in Austin, Tx take notice of this event and have dedicated a ride in the moon’s honor. Now in it’s 28th year the Harvest Moon Ride is the longest running (un)organized group ride here in ATX. Meet up with Austin.Cadence tonight @ 2am to take part in what’s sure to be one of the most magnificent evenings of 2010. Info below.

What: Harvest Moon Ride

When: Sunday September 25,  2010 @ 2am

Where: Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge

P.S. We here at Austin.Cadence would advise you to bring lights and your helmet. Remember…there’s no winner in the race to safety!! See y’all tonight/tomorrow morning!!
